Autostrada

If you’re in the mood for something with a little more bite than your favorite pop band, but aren’t necessarily down with conventional hardcore or screamo, then Autostrada’s heavy alternative fusion  is the perfect catch for your end-of-summer playlist.   With a unique sound and poignant lyrics this quartette is sure to peak your musical interest.  Autostrada – who have been together for exactly one year – boldly blend several genres (everything from indie to hardcore) for a truly genuine, and refreshing, break from mainstream alternative rock.

Although only one of Autostrada’s members (Ben, lead guitar) has been in a band before this one, they’re all making a valiant effort to make a name for themselves in the NOVA/DC/MD scene.  Playing shows like the Kobra Klutch one in May of this year with Motionless in White and In Alcatraz 1962 (Autostrada’s favorite show yet) will definitely help them on their journey.  When asked what inspires them to make music they answered, “God, friends, and a lot of bands ranging from The Beatles to The Devil Wears Prada.”

If you’re curious about what exactly Autostrada means you might want to thumb through the Italian dictionary; after hours of brainstorming band names, Ben and Seth finally resorted to looking up words in the dictionary and settled on Autostrada – which means “highway” in Italian.  When they’re not making music you can find the guys either  working, playing Rockband,  hanging out at shows, or trying to set new world records for texting.

Autostrada plans to hit the scene harder in the coming months as they hope to start booking a lot more shows and, along the way, find a new bassist.   If you’ve yet to hear Autostrada’s music – or you’re a bassist looking for a band – I strongly encourage you to head on over to their Myspace page and click play.
