Honour Crest
For those of you 7 Cities kids that caught Honour Crest this past weekend at Peppermint Beach Club (with Sky Eats Airplane, In Fear and Faith, The Word Alive, and Eyes Set to Kill) you know exactly why they’re Syke’s Band of the Month – not only is their set tight but they definitely know how to bring it! While the band has been in existence for a few years, the original lineup went through some changes and Honour Crest (as they currently stand) really only got started in January of this year. Their music is aptly self-described as “fast paced beats and an electronica-hardcore hybrid” and has developed quite a following in such a relatively short period of time. The low and steady rhythm of vocals/growls by Luke Borza and Joey Tubbs, accompanied by impeccable guitar riffs from Chad Orange and Zack Fitzpatrick, are a perfect contrast to electronic samplings and melodic backing vocals and lead to a strong, cohesive sound. When asked about what fuels them when writing music they said, “Relationships are probably one of our biggest influences. From those in the past to all those that we have today.” Honour Crest has found their niche in their hometown scene with their unique musical stylings and, while most bands are covering pop songs, these guys are evoking just the right mix of nostalgia by putting their own spin on theme songs from Inspector Gadget and Power Rangers. It’s just this kind of creativity and fun that lend to their mass appeal and fan loyalty – I mean, they did win the coveted Syke Energy Band of the Month title right?? ; Members: Links: www.myspace.com/honourcrest
