Girls Get All the Action
If you like to get down with the metalcore kids but want something just a little softer on the ears you’ll be excited to rock out with Richmond, VA’s newest pop rock phenomenon Girls Get All The Action. Vocalist Chris Baldwin and guitarist Jason Thompson started writing music together for GGATA back in July of 2008 but didn’t complete the band until October. Hailing from heavier musical backgrounds – Chris and Jason were both in NoVA’s Bet On Black, Michael played drums for Richmond band Skylines (Blood & Ink Records) and Brad and Ben accounted for half of Covet the Knife (also Richmond based) – these guys have stepped outside the comfort zone of Richmond’s thriving hardcore scene. Despite the fact that each of the band members leads a pretty busy life, they make sure to devote a ton of time to their music, holding band practices 3 to 4 times a week on a regular basis and are continually striving to reach the next level as musicians. Their influences range from R. Kelly (“because he keeps it real”) to Underoath and The Receiving End of Sirens to dance parties and the Richmond scene in general. Oh, and if you’re wondering the story behind their awesome name, it’s this (according to Jason): “Aw man haha. Well we all wrote a huge list of band names and they were all so bad but towards the end they started to sound cool and ‘girls get all the action’ just stood out the most and it was just so true ya know?” A. Random Facts about Girls Get All The Action: Brad Camp (guitar, age 22): At the age of 5, I was cast as the son of Richard Gere's character in the movie Sommersby. After the movie finished pre-production, they recast the spot with someone older. Links: www.myspace.com/girlsgetalltheaction
